โWeathering the Stormโ
Basic format: Marathon Progressive Round Robin
Bring all the gear you are authorized to fight with, and prepare for a long day of competition.
Combat will take the form of a series of hold-the-field single round robins.
What is a “hold-the-field” single round robin? Glad you asked. Fencer one will take the field and fence each of the other fencers in series. Once they are finished, their round is over and they can take a rest. Fencer two will then take the field and fence one bout with each of the remaining fencers. This will continue until each fencer has fought each of the other fencers one time. That will constitute a round of combat.
Each round of combat (not each fight), you will choose the weapon combination that you will be using for all of your fights (single sword, sword and buckler/shield, sword and baton, sword and cloak, sword and dagger, two swords). You may not change your weapon combination once the round of combat has begun and you may not repeat a weapon combination until you have fought with each weapon combination that you are authorized for.
At the end of each round of combat, one fencer will be eliminated from the lists. One or more fencers may choose to remove themselves voluntarily, in which case that will count as the elimination for that round. Failing that, the fencer with the fewest wins that round will be dropped. If there is a tie for fewest wins in the round, that tie will be broken by either a tie-breaker fight, or comparing win counts from previous rounds.
When only two vying combatants remain, the tournament will immediately proceed to a best of three final round.
Notes:
For all rounds prior to the finals, double-kills will count as a loss for both combatants and will not be re-fought. Loss of both arms will also count as “dead” even when this would result in a double-kill.
Fighters may choose to use either a single-handed sword or a two-handed sword (provided proper authorization) as their single-sword combination, but may not switch back and forth between the two during the same round.
As always, this format is subject to change based on such factors as the number of vying participants, weather, safety, etc.
